DIY Cosplay Round Shapes

How to Create Fabric-Covered Round Cosplay Details – Step-by-Step Guide

Introduction

Many cosplay designs include round shapes that aren't necessarily sewn directly into the costume. One way to create these details is by covering them with fabric for a cleaner, more finished appearance.

In this tutorial, Blue (@blueclarice) demonstrates how to use Big Z Fabric's Minky to cover round shapes, secure the edges, and turn them into detachable costume accessories.

Materials Needed

  • Big Z Fabric Minky
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Super glue
  • Hair clips

Step 1: Cut the Fabric Circles

Start by identifying the round shape you want to cover. Cut a circle from the Minky fabric that is larger than the shape itself.

Since Blue is making two matching pieces for the eyes, she cuts two fabric circles.

Step 2: Glue the Fabric in Place

Apply glue to attach the Minky circle over the round shape you want to cover.

Make sure the fabric is positioned properly before securing it.

Step 3: Clip Around the Circle

Once the fabric is attached, make small cuts all the way around the excess fabric.

These clips help the fabric follow the circular shape and make it easier to smooth out the edges.

Step 4: Glue Down the Fabric Edges

Apply glue to the small fabric sections created by clipping.

Blue carefully layers the fabric pieces over one another to achieve the best shape and create a smooth, rounded finish.

Step 5: Attach a Hair Clip for Detachability

Blue wanted her finished cosplay eye pieces to be detachable.

To achieve this, she uses super glue to attach a hair clip to the back of each piece. This allows the accessories to be attached to and removed from the costume.

Tips from the Creator

  • Use fabric to cover round cosplay shapes that aren't necessarily sewn into the costume.
  • Cut a larger circle around the shape you want to cover.
  • Make small clips all the way around the circle to help smooth out the edges.
  • Glue the small fabric sections down, carefully layering them over one another to achieve the best shape.
  • Attach a hair clip to the back if you want the finished pieces to be detachable.

Final Result

A pair of fabric-covered round cosplay eye pieces made with Big Z Fabric Minky. The clipped and layered edges create a smooth rounded shape, while the attached hair clips make the finished accessories detachable.
